Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ), which is also known as Gracie Jiu Jitsu is a martial art, combat sport, and self defense system that focuses on grappling and ground fighting.
It teaches that a smaller, weaker person can successfully defend themself against a bigger, stronger assailant by using leverage and proper technique; most notably by applying joint-locks and chokeholds to defeat the other person. RI Brazilian jiu jitsu (BJJ) or Rhode Island Gracie jiu jitsu (RI BJJ) training can be used for sport grappling tournaments (gi and no-gi), mixed martial arts (RI MMA) competition or self-defense.
Sparring (commonly referred to as 'rolling') and live drilling play a major role in training. A premium is placed on performance, especially in competition, in relation to progress and ascension through the grades/belts. (source Wikipedia.org)
At Coventry Brazilian Jiu Jitsu academy, Daymon Smith, a Tim Burrill Rhode Island Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (RI BJJ) black belt and Joe Almeida, a Tim Burrill Rhode Island BJJ brown belt have over 16 years of mixed martial arts and Brazilian JiuJitsu experience and will show you proper jiu jitsu grappling, joint locks and choke hold techniques. Their attention to detail is shown in their RI Gracie Jiu Jitsu classes, which features one on one training and a great cardiovascular workout.
Rhode Island Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Gi
What is a Brazilian jiu jitsu gi? The Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioner's gi is similar to a judogi, but with tighter cuffs on the pants and jacket. This allows the practitioner to benefit from a closer fit, providing less material for an opponent to manipulate. As is the case with judo, the term Brazilian jiu jitsu kimono is sometimes used to describe the outfit.
When signing up for classes at Coventry Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, you may purchase your Rhode Island Brazilian jiu jitsu gi through the school, along with RI Brazilian Jiu Jitsu or Rhode Island BJJ belts and RI mixed martial arts equipment. You can also purchase MMA shorts, wrestling shoes and other mixed martial arts training apparel.
Coventry Rhode Island Brazilian Jiu Jitsu plans to feature mixed martial arts training and plans to periodically host RI MMA or Rhode Island mixed martial arts tournaments. As jiu jitsu is a fighting style used in mixed martial arts events and training, you will be shown grappling, choke holds and joint locks and other leveraging and mixed martial arts fighting techniques and skills.
The combined experience of Daymon Smith and Joe Almeida will provide you with the Rhode Island mixed martial arts skills you will need to excel in RI MMA events and tournaments and will help you place well at these same events.
